We are looking for great ideas for topics. These can be topics for creative writing or interesting dialog and discussion. If we choose your idea in the next three months (April 29, 2008 - July 29, 2008), we will pay $100.00 to your PayPal account. The voting of this purse is encouraged to give an idea of what is most interesting to the community, but ultimately, the decision of which topics are chosen is DemocraSay's.

I disagree that purses should be shared by all that participate. How is that a competition? Maybe 1st, 2nd and 3rd places like you find in most competitions. But the point about a competition is that not everyone wins.

comment Submitted by speedlimit on Sun, 05/11/2008 - 3:42pm.

One of the ugliest and unfair features of capitalism, at least in its American form, is the principle of "winner takes all". It is very disappointing, to say the least, that Democrasay also subscribes to this undemocratic "principle". Instead, purses should be shared by everyone who took part in any given contest.

comment Submitted by Elysenicole88 on Wed, 07/02/2008 - 2:00pm.

While you see this as unfair, capitalism is what makes this country great! If everyone got a reward for doing "something" then the concept of a winner would be gone.

Competition makes people try harder and reap the rewards. Without capitalism people expect to get something for nothing. Not fair for those who are "go-getters" and really work hard.

Getting better...second prizes now... it is a contest...in any given country...the first takes it all..glory, medals and fame.

If I am not mistaken this site was set up as a competitive forum, DemocraSay staff set up the rules and we, the authors, entered into a competition with each other. When you have a contest, only one person wins, that's why we are all competing. If DemocraSay were to simply give away money because you wrote something on their site, I don't think they would be able to stay in business very long as I am fairly certain that there would be a significant increase in the number of people looking for a handout.

So are you saying you agree or disagree with the new 2nd prize rule? I think for the larger prizes it helps to cut down on some of the controversy. But then again does anything really cut down on controversy? Nope!

I think that a good topic is the current 'War on Drugs' in America. You hear this term used in the justice system and by political figures. Many people are not aware about the problem the United States has with drugs and that we as a country are essentialy at war with the drug problem. There are hundreds of books and everything out there explaining this war on drugs that could be looked both ways, we are winning it, or we are losing it. The problem is, the public is so uneducated and unaware about this topic. Are we losing this war against drugs? Why arent other things being done about it?

Senator Obama, the most apparent Democratic Party Nominee for President in 2008 says the he wants to give us "Real Change we can believe in."

The biggest Real Change we could believe in would be NATIONAL BALLOT MEASURES, a system wherein ordinary people like you and me could put our own Propositions on the BALLOT and let the electorate VOTE for them or against them. In this way the people would have a way to solve problems quickly and cheaply. For example, we could force the government to reduce our taxes, balance the budget, stop senseless wars that were fraudulently forced on our troops, give more money to schools and less money to the Pentagon, provide for a National Health Care plan, restart stem cell research cures for major diseases again, save social security, drive down the cost of gasoline, build more roads and trains, cut the size of government and much much more. And that's all on ONE BALLOT. Why should we wait for Congress to do something about all this? Takes them decades and then the Lobbyists just sabotage the common sense solutions. National Ballot Measures would prevent this sabotage of our rights and freedoms.

Now, that's Real Democracy. THIS SUMMER, there's a chance we could force the Democratic Party to put the support for NATIONAL BALLOT MEASURES like these on their Party Platform. This PURSE goes to the person who can give us the best way to Influence the Democrats to give us Real Democracy, not just talk about it.

If there is a way to influence the Democratic Party Platform, the winner of this purse will know how to do that and give us their BEST Step-by-Step strategy to get this done before or during the Democratic party convention in August.

I would have included the Republican Party Platform, but I already know that Republicans are in favor or a MONARCHY and are anti-democracy. They're guilty until proven innocent I'm afraid due to many events of recent past that prove this point.

If you really believe that by voting you are somehow going to change the system, then I've got some great ocean front property down New Orleans to sell ya.

Seriously, if voting could effect the way the policies and procedures that run this country they would have made it illegal a long time ago. The whole thing is a three ring circus sideshow to placate the masses, to make them feel important, like their voice will be heard. The fact of the matter is that we don't matter, to the multi-nationals that call the shots, we are as expendable as a pencil, use it until it done and throw it away.

But hey if it makes you feel better and you go to bed feeling like a good little citizen because you did your part to shape the face of the world, then more power to ya.

Thanks Octinomos. I was trying to figure that out also. This site is not very intuitive. I just went through those steps and I don't see my idea up there but maybe it takes a while to post or has to be approved first...

comment Submitted by octinomos on Thu, 05/15/2008 - 4:10am.

our article gets posted right away after we punch the 'SUBMIT' button.

if you mean 'Will the election of Hillary or Obama mean...?'

it's located right after 'What would Jesus do...' (3rd or 4th from the top)

welcome to DS :=)
