Home Box Office has produced some of the greatest shows in television history in the last 10 years.
The list of these shows truly represent the quality that HBO has given to TV over the years: "The Sopranos", "Sex and the City", "Six Feet Under", "Deadwood" and others have been not only hailed as ground breaking, but have been rewarded with various awards and media attention, especially the first two.
However, a show that has been regarded by many as HBO's premiere series, "The Wire", never received any awards. In fact, "The Wire" received one Emmy Nomination in its five seasons.
Yes, you read currently. ONE. Only one.
Despite critics praising the show as a "masterpiece" and "the greatest show in modern American television history", the Baltimore based drama was indeed, to say the least, overlooked by Hollywood and the mainstream media.
With all of this information, is there a reason why "The Wire" never garnered the affection of many like "The Sopranos" and "Sex and the City?" Does it have something to do with the fact that it is the largest cast of African-Americans assembled on the show? Was it because of the city of Baltimore not being as notarized as New York City, Boston, Chicago or Los Angeles?
