.. to write the truth! I'm pretty sure that a journalist with a real, but non-conform opinion and facts proving it, will have a big problem in getting a job or a possibility to express him/herself! ( MAJO, where are you? Your cousin is a journalist, she told you about this!)
And who wants to know the truth? Or is interested in uncomfortable statements?
And I guess the person ignoring this, writing nevertheless, will be soon very lonesome!
I have got the very sad impression that our society is trained to consume
( news/medias, products for the "right" status/image) but not to have a own will to decide, I hope I'm wrong!
what I discussed this morning with a friend! Fortunately I don't have a TV there it must be even worse. For my taste the newspapers are hard enough to bear, but while I was complaining about "le Monde", "Vogue" my friend let me know, that most people are reading stuff I even cannot imagine: who was crying and why- who got devorsed and for which reason- the new baby's dress was created by...- buy this car -eat this menue- don't think, we will do it for you, just trust us- stay stupid-Thanks!
The media loses its purpose more and more everyday. Whatever happened to making a positive statement and showing it to the public? Now, the media is lost! Sometimes I have to turn off the TV or recycle a newspaper because I feel like everything I read or see now-a-days is garbage. During my childhood I used to love watching tv, but now that they have commercials for things like Baby stalletos! I hardly have the patience to turn it on. Then when i go grocery shopping I stop by the magazine isles all i see are the words "PREGNANT, DIVORCED, JEALOUS, FAT, DRUGS, REHAB, CUSTODY, COLLAPSE, ANOREXIA" come on....stop poising our minds with all that garbage. But it makes me wonder...can people really live without the drama the media gives them?
and totally biased. A classic example is the war in Iraq. When it was first initiated, the press in the US didn't dare print anything other than praise for the war -- no matter how many people were dying or being gravely injured. They were requested not to ever show the coffins coming off the planes, or information on the numbers of the wounded. Everything was victory and laurels. If you mentioned something against it, like the country western singers, the Dixie Chicks, you were a traitor to the country. Now, there are very few positive stories unless they are personal stories of the men and women who are risking their lives.
The bias, which was much less in earlier decades, is now pervasive. I even object to the accompanying photography which is often as biased as the report. When the media wish to vilify someone, there is always the accompanying unflattering photograph. If they like the person -- my, do they look great!
